چکیده

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance and intestinal health nursery-phase piglets (22 64 days age) fed a diet supplemented with organic acids prebiotics or colistin. One hundred fifty weaned 22 old an initial weight 5.56 kg were allotted pens based on BW in completely randomized block design one three treatment diets: T1, negative control; T2, colistin (10 mg/kg); T3, mannan oligosaccharides + beta-glucans ammonium formate, formic acid, propionate acetic acid (1 kg/ton). daily feed intake, gain, conversion, diarrhea score, cecal Lactobacillus, E. coli fecal coliform content, proinflammatory anti-inflammatory cytokine concentrations evaluated. results considering whole nursery phase showed better (P < 0.05) conversion for T3 (1.593) T2 (1.602) compared T1 (1.679). score lower than that similar ≥ 0.05). received presented greater concentration cytokines at 36 age (p 0.05), exception TNFa, where superior all groups, whereas 57 inflammatory cytokines. diets combination oligosaccharides, acidifiers, representing alternative growth-promoting antibiotics, performed similarly those colistin-supplemented diets.

Alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in prevention of diarrhoea in weaned piglets: a review

The weaning time is a crucial period in the management of piglets. The risk of development of post-weaning diarrhoea (PWD) in piglets is high. PWD is the cause of serious economic losses in pig herds. Since 2006, the use of antibiotic growth promoters for prevention of diarrhoeal diseases in piglets has been banned. This measure also led to the investigation of alternative suitable feed supplem...

Phytobiotics: alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in monogastric animal feeds

Phytobiotics represent a wide range of bioactive compounds that can be extracted from various plant sources. In recent years, some interesting and novel applications of phytobiotics in the production and well– being of monogastric animals have emerged, and these aspects are reviewed in the present paper. Recent studies at the University of New England indicate that water–soluble carbohydrate ex...

General Commentary on: Alternatives to Antibiotic Growth Promoters in Animals

Recent studies have evaluated the impact of alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) such as phytogenic feed additives (PFAs) in vitro and in vivo. Zhou and colleagues studied the antibacterial properties of 30 herbs on pathogenic Gram-negative and positive bacteria (1). Thirteen of the 30 herbs exerted a significant effect against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922 (p < 0.01, n = 11 and p <...

Alternatives to Growth Promoters

In pig production, the terms "growth promoter", "performance enhancer", and "digestive enhancer" include a diverse range of products ranging from simple chemicals (copper salts) to chemically produced antibacterial compounds (carbadox) to antibiotics (tylosin, avilamycin, salinomycin, virginiamycin). Most of the antibiotic group are produced during a fermentation process by yeasts, moulds, and ...
